Nigerian Peace Corps Urges Senate to Pass Peace Corps Bill on World Peace Day

The Nigerian Peace Corps has commemorated World Peace Day 2024 by reiterating its call for the Nigerian Senate to pass the long-awaited Peace Corps Bill.

In a press statement, Acting Corps Public Relations Officer (CPRO), ACG Samson Oteh, Ph.D, emphasized the crucial role the bill plays in enhancing the organization's peace-building initiatives.

"The passage of the Peace Corps Bill will empower us to effectively promote peace, stability, and development in Nigeria," Dr. Oteh stated.

The Nigerian Peace Corps has been at the forefront of promoting peace and harmony in Nigeria through various community-based projects, peace-building workshops, and youth development programs.

However, the organization's efforts are being hindered by the lack of a legal framework.

"The Peace Corps Bill will grant us the autonomy to train and deploy peace officers, collaborate with international organizations, and access global resources and expertise," Dr. Oteh explained.

The organization has urged the Nigerian Senate to prioritize the passage of the bill, emphasizing its importance in promoting peace and stability in the country.
